"THE PRICE IS THE HIGHEST EVER PAID FOR AN
AMERICAN WORK OF ART."
-John Russell, New York Times, 30 July 1982
Samuel Morse's prized painting "Gallery of the Louvre" made its mark on the canvas of history when it was purchased in 1982 for $3.25 million by the Terra Foundation. Following a six month restoration, the 'Gallery of the Louvre' is currently on a permanent touring exhibition in the United States, much as Morse had envisioned back in 1834.
